Introduction to Barrel Fired Ceramics with Terra Sigillata slip – This is a 1 1/2 day course to create unique, interesting, one-off barrel fired ceramics.
Sat June 29th morning: Preparation of pieces for bisque firing. Preparing leather hard clay pieces to slip & burnish. Learn to make terra sigillata slip and how to apply.
Sat July 6th day: Barrel Fire your bisque fired pieces. Be involved in firing your wares. Get hands on, wrap your pots up in foil blankets known as saggars. Add oxides/salt/sawdust and organic matter to create unusual effects. Expect to be amazed at the results with this exciting and often unexpected, fire, smoke and flames adventure.

Pieces can be collected on Sunday the 7th of July. A simple lunch is provided on the Saturday (please state any dietary requirements when booking). Max. 10 students. This course is taught by Jon Crute.
